Dominique Edwards
As an artist Dominique is interested in the repetitive activity of human labour and notions of time and place, which she explores by means of drawing, installation, video and photography.
Edwards has taught and continues to work with a broad spectrum of students at various FET and tertiary institutions in Cape Town. Her interest resides in the creative process, an area she explores methodologically in her teaching.
Dominique Edwards holds a masters in Fine Art from the Michaelis School of Fine Art (2012), a postgraduate certificate in education from the University of Cape Town (2003) and a bachelor in Fine Art from the University of Stellenbosch (2002).
Skinning the Whole and Soft Things
The series Skinning the Whole and Soft Things are part of a further exploration in Edwards’ drawing practice. Referring to her fine, needle thin Rotring pen drawings, (the continuous circling of the smallest bit of ‘blank’) Skinning the Whole and Soft Things move towards collapsing the sharp edge of the Rotring pen mark (which attempts to hold, keep and contain) – and give way to the spill and a shifting ‘tide line’ in these ‘pooled’ ink drawings - coexisting as thinking places alongside her Plaster of Paris sculptures from her recent show, Feel Things.
