cathy abraham
Abraham works in mixed media with domestic materials; tea, coffee, wine, ink, bleach, household paints often mixed with conventional art materials. Conceptually, she references the domestic material that surrounds her and articulates and questions the repetition of daily life and focuses on the details that she encounters in her life.
Going ‘Round’ in Circles
“These works form part of an ongoing series of meditation prayers I am doing during these unprecedented times. Casting my thoughts as repetitive loops, going ‘round’ in circles while counting to 18, a number representing life in the mystical teachings of Kabbalah. The drawings unfold in ripples and waves. Mimicking, through repetition, the shape of scales, the notions of perception of scale in all its symbolic meaning. scale as size, scales in music as well as scale as a form of measure.”
